Veteran Nollywood star, Pete Edochie, has damaged his silence following the controversy surrounding the way in which he greeted revered Yoruba monarch, the Ooni of Ife, at a latest occasion.
The thespian just lately met with the Ooni of Ife on the birthday celebration of Nigerian philanthropist and spouse of Nigerian oil mogul, Tein Jack-rich, Elizabeth Jack-rich.
Pete Edochie, who entered the venue within the firm of his colleague, Kanayo O Kanayo, first walked to the Ooni’s desk to alternate pleasantries with him.
The actor gave the standard ruler the favored Igbo backhand handshake, which the Ooni accepted, with smiles etched on their faces.
Nonetheless, this didn’t sit properly with some Nigerians on social media, who averred that it was disrespectful for the 76-year-old actor to greet Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, essentially the most highly effective king in Yoruba land, with a handshake.
They identified that the suitable approach for Pete to have greeted the king was to bow quite than shake arms.
Coming to Pete Edochie’s protection, entrepreneur Sommy Keshi questioned why a titled Chief like Pete Edochie would bow to the Ooni.
He wrote, “Excessive Chief for a motive, Igbo Kwenu.”
Reacting, Pete, who seems to agree with Sommy Keshi’s stance on the difficulty, reposted Keshi’s put up defending him on his Instagram tales.
